Telling Womxn-centric stories isn’t just a passion - - it’s a MORAL IMPERATIVE.

There’s a running joke in the film, REAL GENIUS (directed by Martha Coolidge), that seeking revenge is a Moral Imperative. Well… the Stats for Women leading the top 100 films for 2023 is a huge step BACK. The numbers have declined to 2014 levels where only 30 films were led or co-led by females. And behind-the-scenes positions aren’t much better, only 12.1% of films were directed by womxn* (in ‘22 it was 9%). Female Cinematographers only made up 6% of the top 100 film & female Editors, 20% for 2023.

Womxn are half the population and that’s how much input & representation we are able to achieve despite a very talented & experienced pool of female creatives.

This is why I created MIF. I’m Dawn Brooks Macleod, a female filmmaker, who wants to uplift and empower all women - especially behind the camera.

My brand is Bold & Brainy Women: the kind who aren’t afraid to push buttons. Leveling the playing field is my Moral Imperative.

I work with an amazing group of female Writers, Producers, DPs, Sound Mixers, VFX Artists, Editors & Colorists…. you name it! I also write, direct and produce. Check out my reel below.
